There have been so many times when I watch an animation and cry because of the story, or immerse myself into the journey of the character and feel exactly how the character is feeling at that moment.

I believe that if an animator knows how tell a good story, they will be able to manipulate audience’s emotion.

In this essay I will demonstrate the definition and the theory, the structure of narrative that is commonly used.

After that, I will explain why and how it can affect on the audiences’ emotion as well as how it can evolve them into the journey of the story.

The movie Good Fellas based on Nicholas Pileggi's book Wiseguy and directed by the highly praised Martin Scorsese is probably one of the best mafia movies ever made.

Good Fellas is the story of Irish-Italian American, Henry Hill, and how he lives day-to-day life as a member of the Mafia in the 60's and 70's in New York City.Robert De Niro plays Jimmy Conway, the man who puts the two of them together, and runs some of the biggest hijacks and burglaries the city has ever seen.Hill (Ray Liotta) rises through the ranks of his Brooklyn neighborhood's organized crime branch, and with money from the mob he begins living the good life, complete with a beautiful bride, Karen (Lorraine Bracco), a fancy home, and the best seats at the most exclusive restaurants.Through their dialogue the viewer can deduce that Jim intends on doing some work for someone name Pando, who incidentally is someone 'you don't want to get mixed up with'.The viewer may also conclude that Jim is unhappy with his current line of work and wishes to move up through the King's Cross 'hierarchy', so to speak, by doing this job.In Good Fellas, the story's exposition or background information is given out through the narration and through flashback. It is during this time that Henry informs the audience about his childhood and how and most importantly why he got into the mafia. In his narration he says he felt like, "the luckiest kid in the world" growing up and working for mobsters...During this scene Jim's relationship with Pando and Alex are established, or re-established in the case of Pando.Jim's first impressions of Alex, an Alex's first impressions of Jim are evident through the production elements involved. The film Two Hands was directed in 1999 by Gregor Jordan, a then virtual nobody. The film boasts an all-Australian cast and is full of Australian humor and irony.
